After Savage Thursday
Post match, a debut gone horribly awry Luther stumbes backstage behind the curtain only to have his wife dart up to him. She wraps her arms around him in an instant and starts sputtering.
Esme: Oh Luthie I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. I swear I didn’t even realize what I did before I did it but it’s going to be okay, you hear me? It’s going to be okay! We’ll go home, I’ll slip into that little nurse outfit, I’ll cure all that ails you, alright? You’ll get more than a sponge bath..
She chuckles and nudges him but he seems to be out of it, gimping forward when she grabbed him by the shoulders to help support that weaker and now very much sore knee.
Luther: Nah, it’s alright. I shouldn’t have done this. I should not have come all this way. I’m just too damn old, too damn broken. Imagine coming all this way to be embarrassed and humiliated in front of some slack-jawed yokels..this was a mistake.
Esme: Luthie... sweetie...
*SMACK*
She cracks him roughly round the head.
Luther: OW! HEY WHAT THE...
Esme: YOU SHUSH AND LISTEN TO ME RIGHT NOW! You take this broken down old man bullshit and you cut it out right now, you hear me? Yeah, the little shit and his dad pulled a fast one. You know WHY he did that? Because the little munchkin knew he wasn’t man enough to beat you straight up... well, at least that’s what I thought. But listening to you sitting here crying like a little girl, maybe I was wrong. Maybe that sub-six foot Limey bastard is more of a man than you, hell twice the man you are. Because I don’t see him snivelling and crying because he lost ONE FUCKING MATCH. Last I checked, you were hiding some massive balls in those trousers. But maybe they’re just for show. Luther Marcellus Thunder, the only one here who is embarrassed and humiliated is ME, because I’m married to a man whom apparently can’t handle losing a match, who wants to whine and complain and doubt himself. Did Jesus doubt himself in the desert? Did he cry and whine when they stuck him on the cross? So about you MAN THE FUCK UP, because this WOMAN ain’t putting out for and sponge bathing some cissy boy” YOU HEAR ME?!
Rubbing his temple Luther sniffles a bit.
Luther: You hit me pretty damn hard over there for a woman..
She scoffs.
Esme: I HAVE TO, it’s the only way to get through to that thick skull of yours. Look, you always claim how I picked you, how I made you feel like a stud among ponies. You still want me to feel proud of you right? You still want me to see you like nobody else sees you? Then you have to start BEING that damn stallion that I know you are be my stud IN AND OUT of the ring..because if I have to chauffeur you around and be there to make sure those floozies don’t snatch you away..then the masses, the unwashed, uneducated yokels that they are..well sweetheart they need something worth seeing. Something that humbles and humiliates them. When they get into those pickup trucks and drive back to the double wides they call homes. When their wives are dreaming of you every night next to them..a real man..that’s what you need to be. Not a goddamn GELDING, you got that?!
He stops, looking at her and nods.
Luther: Yes Ma'am.
She grabs his cheek and pinches.
Esme: There you go. Now walk yourself to the car and I’ll get your gear set. We’ll get the hell out of here and see if I find something more to pinch..for starters.

“Admiration”
We are treated to a rather smartly dressed and sophisticated look of one of SRW’s newest talents, the first ever man to be signed on the roster that being Luther Thunder. He sits there in a tailored suit and slacks, socks and shoes to die for. The whole wardrobe ensemble is worth more than the average working man’s wages (and that’s not even counting the tie). He sits back in a comfortable looking chair and speaks up.
Luther: Hello brothers and sisters of Southern Rebellion Wrestling and for those of you who are not acquainted to me yet. My name is Luther Thunder and I am the first ever male that got signed to this prestigious company and damn proud of it if I may say so. You see folks I could sit here and run down a laundry list of accolades and accomplishments of who I am and what I have done, but in these technological wonder years we are living any single one of you can do it yourselves and since I am a modest and honest man. We’ll save all of us some time and skip that shall we? Do your own research or don’t and be pleasantly surprised. So many others already do that kind of stuff expecting everyone to ooh and awe in amazement. I don’t want you to do that brothers and sisters. Believe in your own eyes, believe in your hearts and open your minds to me that will serve you a lot better. Since my start in this business way back in 2007 I’ve done plenty some things are good and some are less so. I’ve atoned to my sins of the past but sadly for those of you who wish to venture into my past bare in mind that the vile lies and accusations said of me are of a different man: a man before his change and salvation. God himself showed his light on me and guided me towards the loving arms of an angel who later became my wife.
Esme nods.
Esme: You see, what is it the Bible says, there is more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repented? And while over ten years ago, my dear husband may have been a lost sheep, in servitude to evil and shady individuals, he stands today as a beacon of hope, an example of what one can accomplish if you turn your back on the darkness and become a real man. When one looks at what happened last show, the disgraceful displays shown by Clan Millar, it shows you that they are simply lesser men than my husband, follies that in the long term will bring them nothing but ruin. But here, we do not spare a thought for such people, they can take their tainted “victories”, we move on, and thankfully my husband’s next opponent is a genuinely upstanding individual, and no doubt a hero to many people, Max Ironside.
With a pleasant Smile Luther puts his palms together.
Luther: Yes, you see there is such contrast between my opponents. Just in the span of my first match and second match down here in the south I get to compete with two very different individuals. One who’s name and fame surpassed his debut here and one who deserves oh so much more than he ever seems to get the credit for, I’ll let you decipher amongst yourselves which is which. Now Mr. Ironside or Max is it? I hope you don’t mind me calling you Max. Feels so much more natural doesn it? Because Max you and me we aren’t that different in reality. We both have been doubted, cast aside, overlooked and judged for reasons beyond our control. You have turned what some would consider a handicap or a hindrance to a source of strength. I admire that Max, it makes you a big man far beyond your stature and size and to be honest I am kind of envious of it too for you are not only an incredible role model for the up and coming wrestlers. For those who have their doubts over making in this very physical profession but you are also a living proof of what one can accomplish if they set their heart, mind and body to it.
He sits there giving an honest to god applaud for the younger man and smiles.
Luther: Bravo Max, truly inspiring, that win of yours against Brutus. A beast that many would have predicted you to lose to..breathtaking. Allow me to congratulate you on one hell of a debut because as you and everyone else knows: you can only make one first impression and yours my friend, exceptional at the very least. Now I said that we have both probably had our share of mocks and insults and you might wonder why would anyone try that with a man like me, right? Oh Max, people fear for things they don’t understand and the dimwitted and truly horrible ones are the ones who can’t get past one's physical appearance or their surface. I’d wager there’s more than a few times when people have mocked you, ridiculed you and told you “how you don’t belong to this business” Am I right? I think I am Max. Those are the same exact words and feelings I have contested in the past and while my swift and rather violent response seemed to deal with such insults you chose differently. You chose to be humble, polite and pleasant a herculean feat if I may say so and probably more efficient in the long run. So if you expected me to sit here and pass judgment on you, to mock and ridicule you and brag about how I was going to break you, brutalize and victimize you and victimize you..have no fear Max, I am a far better man than that: we both are.
Esme: You see, Max, my husband knows full well what it is like to be doubted, questioned... even as a multi-time champion and Hall of Famer, there were still many who would cast dispersions, who would look past all of that and try to belittle the man. Unfortunately for said people, that usually didn’t end too well for them, for whilst my husband is a good and noble man, those who would wrong him will find their consequences both swift and unpleasant. After such a laundry list of unsavoury people that have haunted my husband’s world for many years, this match is surely a breath of fresh air, a chance for a contest, combat between two stellar, veteran athletes. But do not mistake our respect and admiration for a weakness Max, my husband is fully committed to putting you down for the count. You are a worthy opponent, but even the most worthy must fall sometimes, and Luther Thunder is focused on one thing, and one thing only... victory.
Luther chuckles looking at his wife, nodding along.
Luther: Isn’t she precious? My wife right there brothers and sisters. She might be my biggest and most staunch supporters but as you just heard Max. She also pushes me harder than any of my opponents. So going into this match especially after my loss, you understand that as much as I respect and admire you. I can not, will not be pulling any punches. I just can’t do that, it would be against everything I stand for and unfair to not just us but the fans as well. Your trainer Lawrence and I are dear friends, ask him if I ever judged him for the way he chose to live his life or who he loved, ask Larry Gowan if I ever passed judgement on him as a professional? I did not Max, because I am far better than that. So when you prepare for this match remember that I am not like Brutus, what worked on him will not be working on me and while your debut was more successful than mine, it does not last forever. In this business as we both know you are only as good as your last match. Fans are fickle, they forget they can turn on you in a blink of an eye and that is their right as the ones who buy the tickets and the merchandise. However we as wrestlers, competitors and human beings, we have to be better than that and while I tend to take you down for the count, to make sure that not just SRW but the whole world knows that I am still capable of being just as good as ever, if not better. Don’t hesitate even for a moment to think that I won’t get into that ring to push you further, to bring out your absolute best from bell to bell..I owe that much to ol’ Larry Gowan and to you Max, because you too deserve better than what you have gotten so far.
He puts his palms together for a prayer and smiles that familiar cheshire cat smirk.
Luther: I’ll see you REAL soon Max and we’ll have a match that will be remembered for a long time.
As Luther bows his head to a prayer Esme gets up, walking to the camera and shuts it off.
