It is a quiet evening as Ursula pours expensive Orijen dog food into Rufus's bowl and then let him in from through the backdoor into the kitchen. The tanned bull mastiff looked up at his owner with his tongue hanging out from the side an open, panting mouth, clearly happy to see her. With a small smile, she pets his smooth, fur, giving him a small scratch behind the ear. Accepting her affection, he then heads for his bowl of food sat beside a modest basin of water as he did tend to drink quite a bit after a long day.
She then makes her way to the terrarium on the far counter which houses her pet tarantula, Tortuga. He was named after the ancient pirate haven of the same time, mostly because of his black fur and the small white patch on the underside of his belly that made her think of the pirate skull and crossbones. She opened the lid and reached inside, giving the large spider a gentle stroke with two of her fingers along his cephalothorax and abdomen, then picking him up in her hand. Tarantulas are feared for their size and fearsome appearance but the truth of the matter is that they are largely harmless to most creatures larger than themselves.
Ursula admires her pet's grace and careful movements as he makes his way up her arm and onto her shoulder. Once upon a time, she had been very afraid of these animals. While most would let their terror dictate the terms of their existence to them, the Lady Terminator chose a different approach. Every fear she has ever had, she faced head on. This included buying a tarantula to confront her near crippling arachnophobia. It had taken many years but the results are quite clear as she allowed the spider across her shoulder and now moving down the length of her other arm. She lowers her hand into the terrarium, where he hops off.
Just a little further is another terrarium that has a small colony of white mice. She reaches into a cabinet above and pulls out a small box of mouse feed, which she then opens and pours a measured amount into a small feed tube. She watches as the mice gather around to enjoy their meal. After a few minutes, they clearly have had their fill and part ways to their separate corners of the glass enclosure. Ursula opens the lid and pulls out the oldest and fattest one of the litter, then closes the lid. She held the animal close, stroking it's fur gently.
"It is time, little one," She says softly as she walks over to the Tortuga's terrarium and then places him inside, closing the lid.
Tortuga wastes little time in attacking the mouse, pouncing the animal and puncturing it's flesh. The mouse struggles in vain against the powerful grip of the spider. Her phone chirps with a notification from twitter. With a swipe of the phone, she smirks, seeing the arrogant words of her future challenger. She then has a thought and records the final moments of the mouse before it succumbs to the spider's venom and becomes a meal and then posts it onto twitter.
"You are no Zoey Star, Justice," Ursula says to herself with a smirk, then adds, "You're not even Samantha Tolson."
Of course the response of no fear comes, as expected. Fear has never been required, only understanding and thus far, Justice clearly has failed to understand the depth of her folly.
"I will break the cycle of newcomers challenging for the championship....and winning. Not. this. time," Ursula says softly before walking away, leaving Tortuga to his meal.
