Coda: Yesterday, I took to social media to ask a simple question: Would I be rebuked if I broke Luther Thunder’s leg to put him in a wheelchair he could not stand up from after his actions at the September eleventh episode of SRW Savage Live?
The Seoul Samurai speaks the words as she lies on her back in a grassy patch in the middle of Fairville, North Carolina. Her long brown hair is splayed messily in all directions around her head while her hands idly fix the wrinkles of her pink t-shirt with a cute, happy baby blue unicorn on the front. She rolls to her side, though. Now she’s perching herself onto her elbow. The camera follows, cutting to a shot that looks at her face from the side instead of overhead.
Coda: Many responded. Some favored this hypothetical, their distaste for Luther on display. However, others suggested this proposed reprisal was dishonorable, cowardly, and must have been under the impression I implied I would viciously assault him from behind like some type of common thug. This could not be farther from the truth.
The first-generation immigrant sits up, and now the new camera angle reveals her tight denim teal jeans. A backdrop of trees is behind her. It’s a place out of the way of streets with the calm sounds of birds underneath. The gentle blow of the wind tosses her hair in one direction.
Coda: Without context, their mental image of what I suggested would damage my public approval considerably. I would be regarded as a despicable wrongdoer who shelved the talented SRW Ultimate Conquest Champion good enough to sign the first male contract of this promotion. Never mind the fact that I have proven I could fight on his level at August’s SRW Fatal Friday event! Never mind the fact that I have never shown these qualities before! 내 말을 들어! 무슨 일이 있었는지 지켜보십시오!
Coda pushes herself off the terrain with her open palm and stands with tight fists at her sides, her eyebrows furrowing as she shows her well-practiced frustration.
Coda: Luther faked a leg injury, claiming it happened in the tub! He did this to avoid a match with me. Esma Thunder fought in his stead. When I was about to win, Luther stood from his wheelchair and attacked me from behind. The two humiliated me to end Savage Live, stomping me repeatedly while the SRW faithful witnessed tears fall down my cheeks as I cried out in agony!
She steps forward, getting closer to the camera as her words keep coming.
Coda: This is to be left unanswered?! I am to forget that this occurred as the lasting image at the end of the episode?!
Finally, Coda takes a deep breath. She seems to have calmed down.
Coda: I was asked to think of the fans who looked to me for guidance, and that is what I have done. I could either show them that I will continue to cry as most others would, or I could take action at the appropriate time.
Smiling gently at the thought, she completes it.
Coda: If I spare Luther Thunder of the consequences, I would be allowing it to happen again.
Now looking onto the trees behind her, she continues to speak while the camera catches a glimpse of the side of her head while her hair continues to whip around. Then she looks forward at the lens again.
Coda: As a middle ground, I have come to this conclusion: when it is time to step between those ropes and fight Luther Thunder in a one-on-one match for the SRW Ultimate Conquest Championship, I will not use excessive force. I will not violate the rules that have been in place since roughly the 1940s. This match will be like all others I have had before it, but if his tibia and fibula happen to fracture in a gruesome rotation within the confines of this combat sport’s regulations, no tears will shed from my eyes. If his femur splinters in the middle of our competition, the cover will be made before the EMTs arrive. It will not be untoward, nor would it be intentional, but the consequences of a full-contact athletic contest have been made abundantly clear over the years. All that is left for you to do is wait. All that is left for you to do is to watch what will happen in an SRW ring when the time comes. Please show me your support, and have a good rest of your day.
